Part 2: What role does Rolfing play
in preventing chronic, degenerative disease?
Did you know that most respiratory problems are
a problem with your ventilatory system? Are you aware that your
lungs are not part of this system?
Your rib cage and muscles of respiration are
the primary structures. Your diaphragm and other respiratory muscles
cause your rib cage to expand and contract. For air to enter the
lungs, your rib cage must be able to expand. This happens because
certain respiratory muscles contract and enlarge the rib cage. Thus,
air enters your lungs because your rib cage has created negative
space - empty space and to equalize air pressure your lungs
passively fill with air. Ta Da !!
Did you also know that your rib cage:
- Plays an important role in
movement of lymph fluid- optimizing your immune system and
ridding your body of toxins.
- Acts as a sump pump and brings
up blood from your legs-venous circulation.
- If restricted could trap gas
in your large intestines, causing pain
Drugs can not change restrictions with your rib
cage. Surgery should be out of the question. The simple answer is
manual manipulation- Rolfing. Rolfing can restore normal and optimal
movement of your rib cage and allow lungs to fill with air. The
lymph fluid also moves better as well with the improvement in venous
circulation. An added benefit is that now your nervous system will
quiet down and relax because every cell in your body will get more
oxygen.
Imagine someone is forcibly holding you under
water. You struggle desperately to get to the surface. A surge of
panic and terror flood your consciousness. All your muscles
contract.
This is an exaggerated though accurate
depiction of how your body reacts to a reduction of oxygen-- all
your systems are on alert. When the problem is resolved, all systems
can relax.
Aahhhhhhh! What a relief to breathe correctly.
Another way of looking at the importance of
your rib cage-- structure-- is the following equation.
Host + Disease = Illness
Host( your body ) + Disease (bacteria or virus)
= Illness
Sometimes illness is a result of a disease.
Other times the illness could be caused by a restriction in your
body (The host) that possibly is a restriction that mimics a disease
or maybe reduces the function of your body's own immune system.
Sometimes the illness is the result of both a
disease and a structural restriction in the host. Medical doctors
can help with the infection. Rolfing helps optimize your body’s
natural defenses by reducing or eliminating restrictions.
Peace, Richard
