Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is diagnosed when there is pain and weakness in thumb muscle.

It is often difficult to open jars. There is weakness in hand, prickling, tingling, numbness, clumsiness or heightened sensitivity in fingers and hand. Symptoms can wake patient during the night. Traditional treatment is to immobilize wrist in neutral position or surgically cut connective tissue.

Rolfing is very effective because it will stretch the connective tissue which will free the median nerve from entrapment.

Pain will decrease and hand function increases. Eventually there will be no pain and the hand will function normally.

Repetitive use of hand and/or arm for typing, playing musical instruments, factory work, surgery, chopping vegetables, etc., any motion that is repeated thousands of times every day for many months or years ,can result in carpal tunnel syndrome.

Connective tissue that surrounds and protects the median nerve will shorten, thicken and tighten.

Eventually the median nerve is pinched or entrapped. The median nerve runs from your neck all the way down your arm to your fingers.

Rolfing Is Effective In A Wide Range of Symptoms Including Plantar Fascitis

Rolfing® Structural Integration Often Helps Plantar Fascitis When You Are Desperate For Relief

Symptoms Of Plantar Fascitis

  • Sharp pain on sole of foot - usually worse with first steps in the morning

  • Sometimes feels like a stone bruise on bottom of foot

  • Pain is almost always on one foot

  • Pain can get worse with repetitive weight bearing exercises and after exercise

There are many painful foot injuries which plague athletes involved in different sports.

One particular injury that is shared by many different sports including soccer is that of Plantar Fascitis. Plantar Fascitis is a painful condition which is located on the bottom of the heel and feels much like a stone bruise. As its name implies, it is an inflammatory condition which is a result of micro-tears in the plantar surface or sole of the heel, pass through the arch of the foot and attach again across the metatarsophalangeal joints (knuckles of the forefoot). It is responsible for putting the foot into a rigid lever for push-off and with shock absorption during weight bearing activities.

Symptoms associated with Plantar Fascitis usually include sharp pain at the heel in the morning upon arising with the first few steps and will tend to decrease with movement.

The pain is almost always on one foot only and gets worse with repetitive weight bearing exercise and after exercise. Palpation at the plantar fascia attachment on the heel and along the arch will often times be quite painful.

There are factors which contribute to the development of Plantar Fascitis.

Intrinsic factors such as inflexibility of the calf muscles and Achilles tendon transfer stress to the plantar fascia which may result in micro-tears. Persons who suffer from a condition called pes cavus (abnormally high arches) are also predisposed to developing this condition.

The plantar fascia is very tight in these individuals and may be more susceptible to micro-tears.

Also, the high arches are rigid and do not dissipate weight bearing forces well. As a result, a greater amount of force is placed through the plantar fascia. In a foot which pronates (the arch goes flat) excessively the plantar fascia is placed on stretch and can also result in micro-tears.

Treatment usually consists of icing the painful and inflamed area and reducing the repetitive weight bearing stresses to the foot.

Reducing stress to the plantar fascia may include getting into appropriate footwear heel lifts, orthodics, and/or taping techniques. In more severe cases oral anti-inflammatories, injections and physical therapy are used. In the worst of cases surgery is performed to release the plantar fascia. Consult your physician or health care professional if you have persistent pain or problems as other conditions such as inflammatory arthritis could also be the cause.

Rolfing can stretch the plantar fascia (connective tissue on the sole of the foot) often the pain is eliminated after just a few sessions.

Rolfing Massage and Structural Integration Benefit Your Body, Mind and Emotions

Rolfing® Structural Integration Benefits Your Body, Mind and Emotions

Repetitive Stress|Sciatica|Scoliosis|Thoracic Outlet Syndrome

Visit my blog to see Rolfing videos.

Rolfing works with connective tissue, which forms a web-like structure throughout the body.

From superficial to very deep layers at the core of the body. Connective tissue, or fascia, envelops every structure in the body, all the muscles, bones, nerves, blood vessels and internal organs. Because of injury, stress, illness, repetitive use or simply the aging process, this tissue will shorten, thicken, become more rigid and twist according to the pattern of strain to which the body is subjected.

Rolfing works to release the restrictions, strains and adhesions that create pain, inflexibility and general discomfort and fatigue.

Then, the body is a freer and more balanced and there is a sense of inner strength because the body is working as a whole rather than disjointed segments. After Rolfing, there is a sense of aliveness. Energy levels usually increase. Daily chores simply take a lot less effort. Body parts are working together rather than against each other. (think of a car performance after alignment and tune-ups.)

Spirits have been known to soar after Rolfing.

There is pure joy and delight as we move toward greater integrity of body, mind and spirits as we merge with ourselves, that blending is a true homecoming.

Rolfing has been beneficial in helping to resolve the following symptoms:
